Tensile Properties and Tensile Failure Criteria of Layered Rocks

چکیده
Rocks are less resistant to tension than compression or shear. Tension cracks commonly initiate shear failure. The mechanical behavior of layered rocks under has been studied extensively, whereas the tensile still remains uncertain. In this paper, we study effect layer orientation on strength and failure patterns direct indirect through experimental numerical testing (RFPA2D: software Rock Failure Process Analysis). results suggest that dip angle bedding planes significantly affects strength, patterns, progressive deformation rocks. modes specimens indicate obtained by Brazilian disc test is not as accurate test. Therefore, modified Single Plane Weakness (MSPW) criterion proposed predict based tension. analytical predictions MSPW agrees closely with results. rock engineering, can conveniently reflect (such shale, slate, sandstone) satisfactory accuracy.

Dynamic and Quasi-Static Tensile Properties of Structural S400 Steel
The study of mechanical behavior of the structural steel S400 under quasi- static and dynamic loading has been the subject of this investigation. In oder to obtain different stress - triaxiality conditions the specimens were notched with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3.5 mm notch radius. The results of fractography show as the velocity of tension increases, ductility reduces and a ductile-brittle transition oc...
متن کاملTensile Strength Analysis of bamboo and Layered Laminate Bamboo composites
Tensile properties of bamboo laminae, prepared from bamboo slivers, selected from different regions of bamboo culms (Dendrocalamus strictus), increases from inner to outer region for any cross section and the same is experienced from bottom to top. Application of rule of mixture, on linear regression line drawn from test results, show that fiber strength increases and matrix strength decreases ...
متن کاملMechanical tensile properties of the anterolateral ligament
BACKGROUND In a noticeable percentage of patients anterolateral rotational instabilities (ALRI) remain after an isolated ACL reconstruction. Those instabilities may occur due to an insufficiently directed damage of anterolateral structures that is often associated with ACL ruptures. Recent publications describe an anatomical structure, termed the anterolateral ligament (ALL), and suggest that t...
متن کاملTensile Properties of High-purity Ca Metal
Recent interest in using calcium (Ca) as a reinforcement metal in Al/Ca metal-metal composites prompted this study of the mechanical properties of high-purity Ca metal. Previously reported measurements of Ca’s mechanical properties were performed on Ca of relatively low purity (~95 at%). Ca used in this study was purified by sublimation to reduce O, N, and C concentrations, yielding 99.95% puri...
متن کاملTensile properties of the mandibular condylar cartilage.
Mandibular condylar cartilage plays a crucial role in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function, which includes facilitating articulation with the temporomandibular joint disc and reducing loads on the underlying bone. The cartilage experiences considerable tensile forces due to direct compression and shear. However, only scarce information is available about its tensile properties. The present st...
